The Town of Ayden, NC, (pop. 5000) is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Finance Director. This position is full-time, salary negotiable, w/excellent benefits. The Finance Director is part of the Management Team and reports directly to the Town Manager and performs complex professional work in planning, organizing, and directing financial activities of the town. This position involves supervision of the town’s annual budget, accounting, general revenue collections, risk management, customer service, grant and contract administration, payroll operations, benefits & pension administration; plans, organizes & coordinates complex project activities including the development & execution of the annual audit. Oversees information technology. Must be able to assess data, prepare reports and proposals, and ensure all federal, state and town ordinances are followed. Oversee and make recommendations on town debt plans, including debt models and refinancing. Regularly works with the NC Local Government Commission. Serves as liaison to banks, consulting firms, financial advisory groups, various non-governmental institutions, etc. Oversees the preparation and distribution of regular financial statements and reports. Make presentations to Town Board when needed. Work is performed in accordance with established municipal finance procedures, local ordinances and North Carolina General Statutes governing the responsibilities of local government finance officers. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office 2016. Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related field is required with 5+ years of progressively responsible experience in local government, accounting or finance, preferably municipal; or an equivalent combination of education & experience. Advanced degree is preferred. Certified Professional Accountant (CPA) and Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM) or Certified Local Government Finance Officer (CLGFO) ascertained are desirable. Candidates must have supervisory experience & skills as position manages a current staff of six (6). Previous utility finance experience preferred. The Town of Ayden operates its own electric distribution and water & wastewater systems and is located in Eastern NC, 11 miles south of Greenville in Pitt County. The Town has 74-FT employees and a total budget of $23M. Successful applicant must possess a valid NC driver’s license and pass a pre-employment drug screen. Position will remain open until filled.
