Located in southern Pitt County, the Town of Ayden is a growing community of 5,000 residents and is considered one of eastern North Carolina's most strategically located communities for development; residential, commercial, and industrial. Since its incorporation in 1891, town officials have worked over the years to see the community become a place for families to reside and for businesses to grow. The town is located 10 miles south of Greenville. Ayden's close proximity to Greenville allows the community to take advantage of offerings provided by East Carolina University (a leading University in the State), Pitt Community College (one of the fastest growing Community Colleges in the State), and Vidant Medical Center (a pioneer in medical research and advancement in the Country).
Ayden is best known for are its citizens, community pride, safe neighborhoods, community schools, parks and recreational opportunities, civic organizations, and community appearance. Ayden is a member of ElectriCities of North Carolina and provides its own Public Power to its residents. The town is also a member of the Neuse Regional Water and Sewer Authority that provides a plentiful supply of water treated by state of the art facilities. The town has positioned itself to expand its corporate limits and promote the development of residential and commercial properties. Since 2007, the town has approved the development of over 800 new residential single family homes. With the development of the new cardiovascular center at Pitt Memorial Hospital, the approval of a dental school at East Carolina University, the recent developments occurring at the NC Global Transpark in Kinston, and the overall growth happening in Pitt County; Ayden is in great position to attract new people to the area for buying a home. Ayden is the home to two State certified industrial parks. Located in the Minges Corporate Park are the Minges Bottling Plant (Pepsi Products) and CMI Plastics. There are currently 7 additional lots for sale that are served by electric, water, sewer, and natural gas utilities. Located in the Worthington Industrial Park is Tick Bite Supply Company (Outdoor Sports Gear). There are currently two spec buildings and numerous additional lots available served by electric, water, sewer, and natural gas utilities. The industrial sites will gain the advantage of being located adjacent to the new Southwest Bypass which is proposed to be constructed by the NCDOT. This controlled access freeway will link the Town of Ayden to US-264 where travelers can be in Greenville in under 10 minutes. With the new roadway drivers will be able to travel from Ayden to I-95 in less than 45 minutes. Ayden's commercial businesses are expected to development exponentially as a result of the bypass. The NC-102 corridor specifically is zoned for highway commercial development and is already seeing expansion in the form of a new commercial properties; most recently, Kerr Drug Store. The Town of Ayden has a number of reasons to be excited. The community is expected to double in population over the next 20 years.
