Dr. Teresa B. Byrum, Director of Licensed Personnel for Pitt County Schools, has been appointed the new principal of Ayden Elementary School. She will replace Gail Haney who is retiring at the end of the school year.

Byrum has an extensive background in education, serving as both a teacher and administrator. For the past five years, she has served as the Director of Licensed Personnel for Pitt County Schools.  Prior to that, she worked in Northampton County Schools as an assistant principal at Rich Square-Creecy Elementary School and as a principal at Willis Hare Elementary School. Her classroom experience includes serving as an elementary school music teacher in Halifax County Schools for nine years.

"Although I have enjoyed my time as the Director of Licensed Personnel, I honestly did not realize how much I would miss being a principal," Byrum stated.

Byrum holds a Doctoral in Education Leadership from East Carolina University where she also earned a Master's Degree in Music Education and a Master's Degree in School Administration. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Music from Campbell University.

"I am very excited about returning to my true passion of being an educator in the elementary school setting," Byrum added. "I look forward to becoming a part of the Ayden Elementary School family and entire community."

Teresa's husband, Walter, is Minister of Music at The Memorial Baptist Church in Greenville.  They have four children - Graham, Elizabeth, Kevin, and Corey and two grandchildren - Noah and AnaClare.
