Ayden to receive stimulus funds |

Ayden and Winterville will both be receiving money from President Obama's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Ayden is receiving a total of $226,500 in funding from the from the plan through the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to construct two sidewalk projects, according to Chris Padgett, Ayden's Assistant Town Manager.
The first is titled "NCDOT TIP Project U-5161 AA."
"This Project involves the construction of a five-foot wide sidewalk along the west side of Lee Street / Old NC 102 from West Barwick Street to Jackson Street; a crosswalk will be constructed across Lee Street / Old NC 102 at Jackson Street; and the sidewalk will continue on the east side of Lee Street / Old NC 102 to Allen Drive," said Padgett.
The Project's length is reported to be approximately 0.44 miles and is estimated to cost $75,500.
The second titled "NCDOT TIP Project U-5161 AB."
"This Project involves the construction of a five-foot wide sidewalk along the west side of Lee Street / Old NC 102 from the northern most intersection of Countryaire Drive to First Street," said Padgett.
The Project's length will be approximately 1.02 miles with a projected budget of $151,000.
Ayden's Board of Commissioners are scheduled to review the project agreements at their meeting on June 22.
"To my knowledge this is the only stimulus money the town has been awarded," said Padgett.
