Winner Chevrolet made the cut and will continue to serve its customers for years to come.
Though GM has had to file for bankruptcy the company is restructuring and trying to trim the fat off their holdings. Winner Chevrolet in Ayden is one of the dealers that made the cut. Lew Paylor the manager and owner of the dealership said he was not worried after he found out the criteria for a dealerships being closed.
“We found out that they used a score mainly based on customer satisfaction and sales penetration,” said Paylor. “That was 80 percent of it right there.”
Paylor has had this dealership since 1989 and worked with GM products since ’74. He explained that he knew that his dealership would be safe when graded in those two areas.
Though Paylor has seen a slight drop in business over the last few months. He said that now that what’s done is done that the media will stop talking about GM’s troubles everyday, which should help the company start getting back on its feet.
“We are seeing gradual improvement with people getting out and looking more and our service department has picked back up,” said Paylor. “The service department has been pretty steady all along and we are fortunate to have a good service department that keeps bringing back loyal customers.”
Paylor went on to say that he has customers that come from many counties outside of Pitt for service because they like the way his service department handle things. He explained that has helped him weather the financial downturn better than others.
“Having good word of mouth and loyal customers is what keeps you afloat,” said Paylor.
Paylor explained that he has a lot of good cars on the lot that people want.
“The new Malibu’s are hot right now and so are Impala’s,” said Paylor.
He went on to say that people are still buying trucks and SUV’s. Winners does about 20 percent of its business with commercial companies and Paylor said that as things turn around there will be a lot of people that will need to buy to replace their fleets that they have been holding off on because of the economy.
It is Paylor’s belief that carrying a good mix of vehicle is the best thing for any dealership.
Winner has both new Chevrolets and used vehicles. The service department works on all GM vehicles.
