Position Title:  Equipment Operator

Hiring Salary from $25,000 to $27,000 with excellent benefits

(Starting salary dependent upon qualifications) 

An employee in this position performs responsible semi-skilled work in the operation of medium-duty equipment in the maintenance, repair, and cleaning of streets and rights-of-ways.  An employee in this class drives and/or operates equipment such as street sweepers, boom trucks, rear compacter garbage trucks, backhoes and other service trucks in the collection and disposal of debris and cleaning and maintaining streets and rights-of-ways.  Employees are subject to both inside and outside working environments, extreme temperatures and exposure to various public service work hazards.  The employee must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force and must have the visual acuity to operate assigned equipment while distinguishing safe traffic conditions and maneuvering equipment in tight places.  Employees in this position work a full-time, 4-day workweek and are subject to on-call and call-back work. 

Prefer high school graduate with some experience in municipal equipment operation; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; possession of a valid NC commercial driver’s license is required.  

The position is considered safety sensitive and as a conditional offer of employment, the successful candidate must pass a pre-employment medical exam and drug screen.
