The Town of Ayden Governing Board appoints members to the Planning Board/Board of Adjustment, Library Board, and Arts & Recreation Commission.
The Planning Board performs studies and surveys of the present conditions and probable future development of the town and its environs, formulates and recommends to the Board of Commissioners the adoption and amendment to the land use plan and other plans as necessary, initiates proposals for amendments to the Unified Development Ordinance based upon the findings and recommendations delivered in such studies and adopted plans, determines whether specific proposed developments conform to the principles and requirements of the adopted land use plan for growth and improvement of the town and perform any other related duties that the Board of Commissioners may direct per NCGS 160D-301.
The Board of Adjustment hears and decides appeals of administrative decisions where it is alleged by the appellant that there is error in any order, requirement, permit, decision, determination, or refusal made by the Administrator in the carrying out or enforcement of any provision of this ordinance.
The Library Board serves to be an advocate for Ayden Library within the community and to serve as a representative of the community for the library board. They help establish and implement programs, policies, and regulations for the library.
The purpose of the Arts & Recreation Commission is to advise the Recreation Director on parks and recreation issues. The Commission investigates and determines the needs, interests, and goals of the community for recreation and facilities and programs and make recommendations to the Recreation Director.

Planning Board
The Town of Ayden Governing Board is seeking residents of the town and the town’s ETJ that are interested in serving as a member/alternate member of the Ayden Planning Board. The Planning Board is an advisory board that provides recommendations on land use and development related issues and applications to the Board of Commissioners.
The Board is responsible for reviewing rezoning applications, conditional use permit applications, subdivision proposals, site development plans and amendments to the town’s Future Land Use Map. The Board’s efforts help to shape the town’s development related policy and provide the Board of Commissioners with recommendations after a thorough review process.
The ETJ position is recommended by the Ayden Board of Commissioners and is appointed by the Pitt County Board of Commissioners to fill a three-year term. The Planning Board typically meets on the third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m., in the District Courtroom located on the second floor of the Ayden Town Hall.

Pitt County Human Relations Commission
The Town of Ayden Governing Board is seeking applicants to fill a vacancy on the Pitt County Human Relations Commission. The Commission will identify concerns in the area of human relations, make recommendations regarding these issues and engage in activities which shall effectively; (a) promote equality in such areas as economic, educational, governmental and cultural life of the community for all citizens without regard to race, creed, national origin, sex, age, sexual orientation or disability, and work to eliminate discrimination on any of these bases; (b) encourage fair treatment and mutual understanding and respect among all citizens; (c) discover and seek to counter practices and customs which create animosity and unrest; and (d) make recommendations to the appointing authority for action it deems necessary for harmonious relationships among the citizens.
Applicants for this position must live within the corporate limits of the Town of Ayden.
